Marching Band Camp - Day 3Tuesday, August 2, 2005
Tuesday morning was a beautiful morning, and we gathered for
a half-hour of stretching prior to dining in the cafeteria for
breakfast. Breakfast was eggs, sausage, pancakes, grits, cereal, and fruit.
Then it was out to the field to work on drill. Tuesday is the day that we
combined marching the drill and playing the instruments! Because the weather
is cooler than in years past, the students are making wonderful progress! No
heat or rain to slow us down. We had a special treat to go see East Wake
High School's band perform their program on their last day of camp here at
N.C. Wesleyan.
After lunch, everyone had indoor sectionals except for the battery, who did
more drill outside. Free
time started at 3:30 for most sections, and Dr. Azevedo's nacho stand, which
serves THE BEST nacho sauce, was doing quite a business as the kids relaxed.
The boys seem to gravitate to video games (yes, the upper classmen boys
bring TV's and video consoles!), while the girls are content to chatter.
The evening session combined all the groups except the battery for the first
time. It was very special seeing everything start to really come together!
After the rehearsal, the freshmen were treated to a very special welcoming
ceremony. The freshmen marched in a block down to the activity center, where
the rest of the band was waiting. In a
traditional ceremony, each freshman is introduced to the group. It was a
terrific evening!
