Uniforms

Uniforms are loaned from Athens Drive High School. To ensure they look good and remain in good condition, the following information is provided:

Each section also has a link to the Word .doc files to download and print out.

Mrs. Still, Mrs. Wright, and Mrs. Bader are in charge of the uniforms. Do not hesitate to contact them if you need information on uniforms.

Uniform Rules and Etiquette          File

Your uniform is on loan from the band and band boosters.  Caring for your uniform and all the equipment that goes with it is very important for its prolonged life and looks.  There are basic needs for its care and they are as follows:

  1. When folding bibs to go on the large hanger, make sure the legs are straight by their creases and then fold and hang.
  2. Make sure that the jacket is put on the hanger with the buttons facing the zipper on the bag and the top of the hanger facing to the right.  This will allow the bag to face in the correct direction to allow easy identification.
  3. Please hang your uniform by alphabetical order to allow for easy identification and accessibility.
  4. Make sure your hats are in their boxes and wiped out after each use to prevent mildew and dirt buildup.  Wipes will be provided in the band room in a designated area.
  5. Make sure shoes have been wiped and if needed, polished after each use.  There will be polish and cloths available in the band room.  Please make sure to return the polish to the designated area.
  6. If for any reason a part of your uniform is damaged, lost, broken, or otherwise, please notify the parents responsible for the uniforms or Dr. Markoch.
  7. The large hanger and uniform bag also need to be handled with consideration.  If either one becomes damaged in any way, please notify the uniform parents or Dr. Markoch.
  8. Please make sure that when wearing your uniform that you and the clothing you wear underneath are cleanAlways wear a shirt under the jacket! Girls can wear Soffee-style shorts underneath to facilitate changing.
  9. Gloves will be issued to each band member and need to be kept clean also.  Do not store them in the hat boxes.  They can be kept separately in a plastic bag, or stored clean in the top part of the large hanger (just use the velcro tabs around the upper hanger bars).  If for any reason the gloves are lost, replacements will be provided, but an appropriate fee will be charged to your account.
  10. Black socks must be worn.  If for any reason you do not have these at the time of a performance, a pair will be provided, but if new socks are provided, a fee will be charged to your account. Do not wear your shoes without socks!
  11. After each performance please wash the gloves, and white collar to make sure they are clean.  Please take home in the uniform bag (if taking the bibs), and clean per instructions.  Return them to the uniform room by the following Tuesday.

Thank you for your cooperation and have a great season!

Washing Instructions for Collars & Gloves

1. Pre-treat stains with Greased Lightning or Shout.  Greased Lightning is the preferred pre-wash for heavy soil.  It can be bought at most grocery stores in the household cleaning sections.

2. Wash separately on Perma-press, or Gentle Cycle using cold water and a mild detergent.  Do not use fabric softener or bleach! Air dry. Collars are almost as easy to wash by hand; gloves wash easily in a small, mesh bag in the washer.

3. Gloves and collars need to be washed after each performance.

Alterations                                        File

When you child was fitted for his/her uniform, alterations may be needed. Most alterations are simple hemming of the sleeves and bibs. Any bibs or jacket will be marked, if time allows, on a piece of paper attached to that piece of the uniform, and the alteration needed will be noted on the alteration sheet given to the student.  If you do not sew, you may take your child's uniform to a tailor shop of your choice.  They will charge around $6-8 for the hemming of a pair of pants.  The hemming of the jacket sleeves should be a comparable price.  Please make it clear if you take a part of the uniform to a tailor shop, that NOTHING CAN BE CUT, just hemmed.

To hem the bibs, first take out the existing hem, and mark where it is.  Then turn the pants up to the appropriate length to re-hem them.  DO NOT CUT ANYTHING OFF OF THE PANTS OR THE JACKET!!!  Please use black thread on the black bibs and blue thread on the jacket.  Hem the jacket sleeves the same as the pant legs. When hemming the bibs, it is ok to press the new hem in using a steam iron over a slightly damp cloth.

If you have any questions, please contact the uniform committee.  If you cannot hem the uniform bibs or jacket, or take them to the tailor shop, please call immediately so they can find a way to get them hemmed for you.  Also, if you notice anything that needs repairing such as a broken zipper, a missing button, a ripped seam, or a hole, and cannot take care of this yourself, please write a note to this effect and let Dr. Markoch know of the problem.

Please have the uniform bibsand/or jacket returned to the bandroom no later than September 15th.  NOTIFY DR. MARKOCH when you bring them in so that we are aware of which uniforms are finished and complete.
